Purina Animal Nutrition adds Dr. Patrick Biggs to its flock nutrition team

Purina Animal Nutrition is pleased to announce the addition of Patrick Biggs, Ph.D., to the Purina flock nutrition team. Dr. Biggs will work from the Purina Animal Nutrition Center in Gray Summit, MO, home to Purina’s 12 backyard coops and flock of heritage chickens.
Working alongside Purina Flock Nutritionists Dr. Gordon Ballam and Dr. Mikelle Roeder, Dr. Biggs will help develop Purina’s industry-leading poultry feeds and serve as an additional resource to help flock owners raise happy, healthy birds.
“I enjoy talking to people about their animals and looking for new ways to become better caregivers,” says Dr. Biggs. “With a deep history in animal care and partnerships, Purina stands for both of these passions. I am excited to join the Purina team and share ideas with flock owners across the country.”
Dr. Biggs brings considerable poultry knowledge to his role, with industry experience in: feed formulation, technical support, facility management and flock nutrition. Most recently, Dr. Biggs worked as a poultry nutritionist for BioResource International, Inc., where he specialized in development of high-performance enzyme feed additives for poultry. Prior to this, he was dedicated to poultry management and research at Ridley, Inc., and Alltech.
Dr. Biggs holds a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and Ph.D. in animal science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His Ph.D. work focused on evaluating alternatives to antibiotics in poultry rations – with a goal of helping flock raisers provide fresh, wholesome nutrition to their flocks.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Biggs to the Purina Animal Nutrition family,”says Jodi Eineichner, backyard flock marketing manager with Purina Animal Nutrition. “His commitment to nutrition for happy, healthy birds makes him a fantastic resource for flock raisers. With Dr. Biggs’ help, we are excited to continue helping families across the country provide optimal nutrition for their flocks.”
In addition to his dedication to backyard flocks, Dr. Biggs will work with companion animals, including: goats, rabbits, fish and more.
