The French Pearl Guinea are the same breed. If you are going to get guineas i suggest you start with a small flock 5-10 for your yard. They eat a lot of ticks, but are very noisy and love to travel to your neighbors. They don't do well in a coop but do produce a small white egg. they are $7.00 each.
It has been a wonderful chick season. This is our last order for the year. We will begin again in January 2023!

Every week till the end of May our brooder will be full of new baby chicks. Our chicks are always Pullets, meaning they are 90% female, (silkies, bantams are straight run). And you can always pre-pay special orders, you will be called when your chicks come in and you have 24 hours to pick them up..
We have Rhode Island Blue, they are the same hardy breed and egg layers as the reds but have a blue body feathers. Nice addition to your flock.
The Blue Rock is another hardy Rock breed, good egg layer and gentle personality. These chickens are bred to give you a different look in your flock.
It has been a good season so far we have been selling out fast and deliveries of new chicks are coming in every week. Check out the left column on this blog for what has been ordered.

This is an exciting time! Waking up to chirping and watching them grow is family fun. In 16 to 18 weeks from the day you brought them home, they will begin to lay eggs for you. Starting in March the selection of chicks will increase, so watch the left column of this blog and make your plans to get some rare or uniquely birds to add to your flock.
In March we will start ordering ducks, turkeys, guineas and geese. Please come in and make a request for these special birds. Once birds are ordered and show up on the blog, We recommend that you come into the store and do a Pre-Paid Special Order so you will get the birds you want.
Woodville Ace starts selling chicks before anyone else in our area. Spring chicks mature fast and for most breeds start laying eggs at 18 weeks. Our brooder is set up and we have a good selection of common chicks ($4.00 each) to get you started. Of course it will be at least 8 weeks before they can go outside into your coop since they have no feathers or fat to protect them from the cold.
When it comes time to start introducing your 6-8 week old chicks outside do it very slowly. choose a warm sunny afternoon, set them out in the shade first for a few hours. I use an old dog crate without the tray, so they can scratch in the dirt. For about a week or so leave them out a little longer each day and eventually let them in the coop, if these are your only chicks.
If you are introducing them to an existing flock or older chickens, you need to keep them in a separate area or crate inside the coop, so they can figure out their pecking order through wire before they are allowed to be loose together. When that day comes to put them together, do it at night while they are on the roost. Set your young chickens beside the adults in the dark. when they wake up they usually accept the new comers as part of the flock. But still watch them to make sure no one is getting picked on. If so they go back in the crate and try again in a few days.
Our hatchery is Mt. Healthy. hatch dates are every Wednesday, the day old chicks usually arrive on Thursday morning. This will depend on weather and the US Post Office.

My favorites are the Barneveldars, pullets for $4.75 and beautiful Colombian Rock Cross, Pullets for $4.00.
This is the bird you want in your flock if you’re a beginner. Orpingtons are known for their sweet-tempered, docile nature. They’re a sizable and curvy bird with loose, fluffy feathering which makes them seem even larger. Red Orpingtons are a solid rust color. Orpingtons tend to be very friendly and have a pet-like demeanor. They are a productive layer of medium-large brown eggs.
I'm always amazed at the different colors of Orphingtons. Such a sweet friendly bird that lays lots of eggs and makes the perfect addition to your backyard flock. I love their fluff soft feathers and look at these REDS!

Meet the Lavender Orphington,
They are a large fluffy, friendly hen – have a profusion of feathers which makes them seem much larger than they actually are.
They are known to be curious, docile, cuddly and quite smart, which makes them adorable!
As they are so calm and quiet they are often lower in the pecking order than the more assertive ladies of your flock. They do get picked on by other hens, so be aware of this and deal with it as needed.
They are said to be good foragers although they are more likely to hang out near the feeders – being a bit on the lazy side.
If you’re a free-range fanatic and love to let your birds roam free the lavender sits in the middle of the pack. They love to forage, and won’t go hungry when they have plenty of vegetation, bugs, and grubs to devour. But they are a tad clueless when it comes to keeping an eye out for predators.
Lavenders are extremely friendly, in most cases, and will choose to spend time near you while you are out doing the chores. If you’re looking for a friendly companion free-ranger, the Lavender is a great choice (especially because the roosters do not tend to be aggressive).
As with most Orpingtons, they are a fairly steady layer. They should produce around 170-200 light brown, medium sized eggs per year.
Since Orpingtons are known to be broody, you can expect them to go broody about once a year. They make wonderful mothers, so if you have any eggs that need hatching, slip them under your Orpington!
High temperatures and heat can be a problem for Orpingtons because of their dense feathering. They need shade, cool water and dust bath areas readily available to help cool them down. Another problem with excessive sunlight is that it will make the Lavender color fade a little into tan/yellow overtones in mature birds.
The Lavender Orphingtons coming in this week are pullets, $12.00 each. Call or come in to Pre-Pay for your chicks to assure you will get them, they will be put on hold for you for 24 hours. We ordered extra because these birds are very popular. Order should come in on Thursday.
